This is why I bought my Series IIa, another year or two and they’d be out of my price for anything that was not just a pile of rotted metal.

Welcome to what happened to muscle cars of the late 60s and early 70s. It’s happening now with late 70s and early 80s cars. It’s not as pronounced yet, but who knows what will happen in the next couple of years..... I myself predict an upward trend barring some fiscal disaster on a national level.

And this is why I am trying to save every penny I can so I can buy up a decent 944S before they take off into the horizon.

2004 pricing was ~100k. 12yrs later it’s worth a cool $1MM? Hahahahaha. No. They built 1580 1973 RS’s, mostly touring and fewer lightweights. The build numbers don’t support the pricing. Bubble approaching maximum size... I think this goes on for a little bit longer, but it will drop.
Rich people have run out of places to put their money.

I really wonder if 80s cars will hit the same heights. They get such an undeserved bad rap from everyone. Although if they do, then they will probably be compounded, since there are less of a selection of sports cars than there was in the 60s.

I think it will go beyond sports cars. It’s already started.
Example: 1985 Eldorado convertibles are going for about $15K for clean examples.
I did find this:
https://www.carsforsale.com/vehicle/detail…
For the price, I have to wonder what’s wrong with it. I’ve been on the hunt for an ‘82-’85 Buick Riviera and most that APPEAR this clean go for a decent amount more. I’d LOOOOVE an 84-85 with the 3.8 supercharged motor, but I either find rat boxes or cars priced more than I’m willing to pay.

well at least I dislike 80s passenger cars so a price increase doesnt interest me.
what does intrest me is the low, low current price of late 70's camaros, trans ams (79 and up) mid eighties trans ams, and z31 300zxs. all fantastic cheap cars that can be had in good shape for ~5,000$
well, not the 70s trans ams but still.

The Camaros are taking off too....

That’s a lot for a car that’s been abused....

I didn’t save the ad, but I found a pristine 1979 camaro z28 with i think 60k miles for $6,000 on craigslist. With a manual and t tops. Thing was perfect. I was so mad that I couldn’t buy it. Anemic 350s aside, thing was calling for an ls swap.
Edit: dear god that car. Screw the collector car market.

Wouldn’t even need the swap. A decent set of used heads and a decent cam would wake it up.

Makes me glad I bought my pile when I did. Soon probably wouldn’t be able to afford it.
